By 2050, rising population and demand, as well as an increase in use of wood for bioenergy, could triple the amount of wood society takes from forests and plantations per year, according to the latest instalment of WWF's Living Forests Report .

On Tuesday, real estate and timberland management company Rayonier announced it is selling one of its four operating divisions, its wood products division, to Vancouver, Canada-based International Forest Products Limited (Interfor).

New Forests announced yesterday that it has completed an agreement to purchase Gunns’ sawmilling, sales, and distribution business from the Receiver, KordaMentha. New Forests will acquire all the assets of Gunns Timber Products (GTP), including the Bell Bay and Tarpeena sawmills.

With their recent burst of enthusiasm Chinese buyers are now feeling more positive about 2013 prospects, with the common perception that the newly announced Government Leaders have little choice but to modestly stimulate the economy while new policy is put in place.
