Pinnacle Pellet has officially broken ground on a new pellet plant to be built near Burns Lake, British Columbia.

The plant will produce wood pellets from mountain pine beetle killed wood.

Pinnacle Plant plans to product 400,000 tonnes of wood pellets a year and will export the product to European and Asian markets.

The new plant, estimated at $30 million, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. 20 full time jobs will be created at the plant, with another 50 spin off jobs in the area.

This is Pinnacle's sixth wood pellet plant in British Columbia, with pellet plants already in operation in Armstrong, Williams Lake, Quesnel, Strathnaver, and Houston.

Pinnacle Pellet's chief operating officer, Leroy Reitsma, said the company is "looking forward to working with Babine Forest Products and the Burns Lake community that includes government agencies, community members, First Nation groups and other stakeholders.”

The Pinnacle Renewable Energy Group is a private company owned by the Swaan family of Quesnel, British Columbia. Pinnacle has been in operation for over twenty years and is the longest established wood pellet producer in Western Canada.
