Nigeria’s prospects as a full REDD participating nation shone bright last Thursday as a week-long Scoping Mission by the United Nations REDD+ Programme that commenced in Calabar in Cross River State came to an emotional end in Abuja, the federal capital city.

Lagos — The Minster of Environment, John Odey said since Nigeria now controls over 40 percent of the certified emission reduction in Africa, it can leverage on it to generate ingestible funds.

The Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey, has said that the Federal Government is fast- tracking the implementation of sound policies to promote the development of green energy projects.

National Technical Committee on Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) has been inaugurated. While inaugurating the   committee members, Minister of Environment, Mr.

Nigeria a couple of months ago endorsed the Copenhagen Accord when she submitted a letter in May to the United Nations indicating her association with the document. However, Nigeria did not provide any specific emission reduction targets as part of its commitment to the Accord.
