Statistics: Russian timber industry in 2009

According to the Ministry of Economic Development, fiberboard production output decreased by 26.1%, of chipboards – by 20.7%, plywood – by 18.7%, sawn timber 12.2%, door and window units – by 33.4 and 46.1% respectively.

THE FOREST INDUSTRY OF THE FUTURE: What Will It Look Like?

I was recently asked to speak at the North Carolina Forestry Association’s annual meeting in Myrtle Beach on the above captioned topic. Before agreeing to the talk, I had to think about it for a while. The quote “Its tough to make predictions, especially about the future” attributed to Yogi Berra, as most quotes are, hung in my mind for a few days. Growing interest for Swedish wood in China

Between 2000 and 2005, Chinese timber imports tripled from 10 million to 30 million cubic metres. The import of sawn solid wood products also experienced a similar trend. During the second quarter of 2009, China was the world’s second-biggest importer of sawn softwood products.

US: South’s forest industry struggles through 09

 

Every sector in forest products in the South swooned in 2009, with sawmill production falling an industry-worst 21 percent on top of a 23 percent decline in 2008.

Pulp and paper mills were less hard-hit, an industry group reported.
