Forest Industry Applauds Government for Promoting Canadian Wood in Asia

The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) is pleased that the Minister of Natural Resources, Joe Oliver, has promoted Canadian wood frame construction as environmentally friendly and energy efficient during his trip to China.

Minister Oliver attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of China's first four-storey wood frame structure, a joint Canada-China project using Canadian lumber, located in the Tianjin Economic Development area.

Metso to Supply Pulp Line for Production of Chemical Cellulose for Sappi's Ngodwana Mill in South Africa

Finland, Oct 20, 2011 - Metso will supply a new fiberline for chemical cellulose for Sappi's Ngodwana mill in South Africa. Start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2013. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Metso's delivery will include the design and supply of the main equipment for the new fiberline, from cooking to bleaching. The batch cooking plant is to be designed according to the prehydrolysis process and TwinRoll wash presses will be used in all washing positions.

Wood fibre costs reach new highs

Wood fibre costs for the global pulp industry reach new highs in 2011 with the biggest increases seen in Russia, Finland and Western US, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly. Wood costs account for about 60 percent of the production costs when manufacturing pulp for paper.

Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper Celebrates the International Year of Forests by Supporting an NGO-Led Reforestation Project

Vienna, Austria, Oct 5, 2011 – To mark the UN designated International Year of Forests 2011, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper has launched a new initiative to support re-forestation around the world in conjunction with the NGO OroVerde. Mondi, an international paper and packaging company, will donate 1 percent of the net proceeds of Green Range certified copy paper sold on November 15th to the OroVerde project “Guatemala – Tree for Tree.” For every euro donated to the project one tree can be planted.

Ilim Group Expanded Coverage of FSC Forest Management Certificate Over all Leased Timberlands

The Forestry Branch of OJSC Ilim Group in Koryazhma (Arkhangelsk Oblast) has gone through audit verifying the compliance with the FSC Forest Management requirements. No significant incompliances with the international standards have been identified during the audit which was carried out by GFA (Germany). After the audit the Forestry Branch was included in the list of Ilim Group Branches covered by the multi-site Forest Management FSC Certificate.
