Norway releases US$1.1M to Guyana outside GRIF

Norway has released US$1.1M to Guyana outside of the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) – the agreed mechanism for the disbursement of funds under the two countries forests’ agreement – in order to enable Guyana to meet its contractual obligations under the partnership.

Electricity for 10,500 hinterlands homes

Government has unveiled a major hinterland project that will see 10,500 homes being equipped with solar power.
The programme is being executed by the Project Management Office, Office of the President, with the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for procurement and monitoring activities.
The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs will also be lending support to the project implementation, a government statement announced.

President calls on UN to craft global accountability indicators

Speaking at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly’s annual high-level debate
yesterday, President Bharrat Jagdeo called on the UN to establish global
accountability indicators to assess whether the implementation of policies is in accordance with the international responsibilities.
