A growth in high-rise wood buildings could boost timber production in Brazil and see the country's trees being used for more buildings globally, a Canadian architect has claimed.

Michael Green, an architect at Vancouver-based firm Mgb Architecture, made the claims at the recent Green Cities conference in Melbourne. Green is currently using a grant to design a 30-storey timber building in British Colombia. He said he wanted to use the prototype to prove that high-rise wood buildings were economically viable and offered an investment opportunity.

An international technology company has received an order to supply another timber product processing system to the MDF plant of Arauco do Brasil SA.

The technology group, Andritz, has been contracted by the company to provide a third pressurised refining system at the plant in Jaguariaíva. It is the 11th such system that the company has provided to MDF manufacturers in the company, indicating the robust health of the timber product market.

Brazil, Feb 01, 2011 - Metso will supply a new recovery boiler and evaporation plant for Eldorado Celulose e Papel S.A.’s new greenfield pulp mill investment in Três Lagoas, Brazil. The value of the order is not disclosed. The order will be included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4/2010 orders received. The start-up of the new plant is scheduled for Q4/2012.

Graz, Austria, Jan 21, 2011 - International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Eldorado Papel e Celulose Ltda. (Eldorado Brasil) to supply a complete fiberline and other major equipment for the new pulp mill in Três Lagoas, Brazil. Start-up is scheduled for the third quarter of 2012. It was agreed not to disclose the order value.

The values of eucalyptus investments in Brazil are set to rise with the building of a new biomass power station, due for completion at the end of 2012.

The Dow Chemical Company will develop the power generation system at its Aratu Complex production facility, where it will operate alongside the company's other fuel production methods already undertaken there.
