The mission of the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre is to create innovative knowledge to expand the economic opportunities for the forest sector to benefit from Canadian wood fibre.
Background
The Canadian Wood Fibre Centre was formed in 2006 within the Canadian Forest Service (Natural Resources Canada).
At the same time, a new partnership was also formed, called FPInnovations. FPInnovations represents the consolidation of three forest research institutes, Feric, Forintek and Paprican.
The Canadian Wood Fibre Centre has partnered with FPInnovations to significantly strengthen its forest-level research capability.
There are now 73 employees working for the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre, including several research scientists, technicians, and specialists. The employees work out of the Canadian Forest Service’s six research centres, located across Canada.
Goal of the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre
By 2017, the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre aims to be the national authority on Canada’s wood fibre resource and its innovative uses for a globally competitive Canadian forest-based industry, with the wider aim of helping maintain a healthy forest sector for the well-being of all Canadians, now and in the future.
