Saw milling: Simon and Shock’s US$18.7M forest project requires environmental study

..says EPA
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says a sawmilling project by Simon and Shock International – a timber company – requires an Environmental Impact Assessment before a permit can be granted for the operations to go ahead.
The operation is to take place in the Upper Essequibo-Corentyne-North Rupununi District.

Stora Enso and Arauco joint venture Montes del Plata invests USD 1.9 billion

Sackkfraft Paper Machine Speed World Record at Mondi Frantschach

Italy, Jan 10, 2011 - One month after having installed a new PMT SMARNIP® mini shoe press, the 4.5 m wide PM6 at Mondi Frantschach (A) has broken the speed world record of sackkraft paper machines, producing for over 24 hours in a row at 1002 m/min at pope-reel, in November 2010.

The successful cooperation between Mondi Frantschach and PMT Italia started in 2009 with the installation of a new M4 headbox and a new PMT shoe press on PM7, producing MG papers at a maximum speed of 450 m/min.

US and Canadian log and lumber exports to China up over 150 percent in 2010

The value of softwood logs and lumber shipped from North America to China is estimated to reach over 1.6 billion US dollar in 2010, which is up dramatically from just a few years ago. In 2008, total exports were valued at 350 million dollars, while they were only 125 million dollars five years ago.
