Brazil forest concession area exceeds 1m hectares

More than one million hectares of prime Amazon Rainforest land in Brazil has been made available for a programme of forestry concessions, according to the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB).

The area involved in the programme is spread over seven areas within the states of Rondonia and Pará, and is estimated to have a total potential timber production value of approximately 850,000 cubic metres every year.

Brainstorming session for sustainable forest management begins

A two-day expert consultation on ‘operational strategy for sustainable forest management’ was begun at Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in Bhopal on Friday.

The consultation was graced by the delegates from Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF); Principle Chief Conservator of Forests from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur; veteran foresters and representatives from the State forest departments and research institutions.

What problems does sustainable forest management face in Russia?

Discrepancies in the system of the Russian forest legislation is the main reason for that. This was the common opinion of participants of the Roundtable organized by WWF at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in early November 2010.
