CEP signs deal with Sinar Mas regarding Mackenzie pulp mill

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) has signed a deal with Sinar Mas (parent company of Asia Pulp and Paper) - the company that is purchasing the former Pope & Talbot/Worthington pulp mill in Mackenzie, British Columbia.

The mill isn't expected to product pulp until at least September, but the first of 200 employees will be recalled next week.

Due to the downtime at the mill, every piece of equipment will need to be inspected and tested before production can restart.

Sinar Mas expects to export 90% of the pulp it will produce at the mill directly to China.
